About Better You Dog Training
Better You Dog Training is a relationship and rewards-based dog training service based in Portland, OR. We specialize in building a strong, trusting bond between you and your dog using positive reinforcement techniques.
We use a relationship and rewards-based approach. This means we focus on reinforcing the behaviors you want to see, building trust between you and your dog, and making training a positive experience for both of you. We will use a variety of tools to give owners the toolbox needed to manage their dog including slip leashes, prong collars, and e-collars.
We are based in Portland, OR and serve the greater Portland area. Please reach out to confirm if we cover your specific neighborhood or surrounding city.
Our Services
We offer four core services:
- In-Home Training — Private lessons in your home environment
- Board & Train — Your dog stays with us and receives intensive training
- Psychiatric Service Dog Training — Specialized training for dogs supporting mental health needs
- Pet Care / Pet Sitting — Trusted care for your dog when you're away
In-home training means we come directly to your home to work with you and your dog in the environment where most behaviors occur. This is often the most effective approach because your dog learns in the exact setting where they need to behave — no distractions from a new location.
In a Board & Train program, your dog stays with us for an intensive training period. We work with your dog daily on the skills and behaviors you want them to learn. At the end of the program, we transition those skills back to you so you can maintain them at home.
Yes! We specialize in psychiatric service dog (PSD) training. PSDs are trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate the symptoms of a mental health condition such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression. We work closely with handlers to train dogs that are reliable, well-behaved in public, and task-trained to meet their handler's specific needs.
Yes! We offer pet care and pet sitting services in the Portland area. Whether you're going on vacation or just need someone to check in on your pup, we provide attentive, loving care for your dog.
Training Topics & Behavior
Yes! Resource guarding — when a dog becomes protective over food, toys, or spaces — is one of the behaviors we address. We use positive, science-based techniques to help your dog feel safe and reduce guarding behavior safely and effectively.
Depending on your program, your dog can learn foundational commands such as sit, stay, down, come, leave it, heel, and more. We tailor the training to your dog's current level and your household's specific needs.
We work with dogs of all breeds, ages, and backgrounds. Whether you have a new puppy, an adult dog with established habits, or a rescue with a complicated history, we meet your dog where they are and build from there.
Pricing & Booking
We use a flat-rate fee structure for our services. Pricing varies depending on the program (in-home, board & train, service dog training, or pet care). We recommend booking a free discovery call to discuss your dog's needs and get accurate pricing for your situation.
The easiest way to get started is to book a free dog training discovery call. We'll talk about your dog, your goals, and which program is the best fit. You can book your free call at betteryoudogtraining.com/freedogtrainingcall.
